Celebrate English Tourism Week: Explore the Best of England and Eastbourne

English Tourism Week has officially begun, marking a fantastic opportunity to celebrate and support the incredible tourism industry across England. As we transition into the lively spring and summer seasons, now is the perfect time to start planning your next adventure. Whether you’re drawn to breath-taking coastlines, historic landmarks, or vibrant cultural experiences, England offers an array of unforgettable destinations.

One of the standout locations to explore during English Tourism Week is Eastbourne. Our charming seaside town offers everything from serene beach days and picturesque countryside walks to a thriving arts and entertainment scene. No matter your interests, Eastbourne has everything to ensure a memorable trip.

The Cinematic Beauty of Eastbourne

VisitBritain, the leaders of English Tourism Week, recently launched their ‘Starring Great Britain’ campaign. This initiative highlights Britain’s role in some of the biggest blockbuster films and TV shows. Eastbourne, in particular, has had its fair share of time in the cinematic spotlight.

Did you know that Eastbourne has served as the backdrop for numerous well-known productions? Beachy Head, one of the area’s most iconic landscapes, is recognisable from 'Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire', as the wizards arrive at the Quidditch World Cup. The cliffs were also a filming location in the 1987 James Bond film 'The Living Daylights,' where Bond parachutes out the back of a Land Rover plummeting into the sea.

Another iconic moment that Eastbourne is often recognised for is from the teen rom-com 'Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging,' where Georgia is running along the seafront in her olive costume. The movie was shot all along the southeast coast, featuring Eastbourne's pier and bandstand.

A final moment in the spotlight that we could not forget is when an episode of Miss Marple was filmed on our very own estate. Our iconic white palace was the backdrop of the episode, and some bedrooms were even featured too! While we cannot relate with the murder mystery plot, the feature is something we are rather proud to be a part of!

Supporting Local Tourism

English Tourism Week is an excellent reminder of the importance of supporting local businesses and attractions. Whether you’re dining at an independent restaurant, browsing shops along Eastbourne’s Victorian seafront, or booking a staycation at a boutique hotel, your visit contributes to the thriving tourism industry.

With more people opting for domestic travel, there’s never been a better time to rediscover the beauty of England. From weekend getaways to extended holidays, every trip helps sustain the country’s rich tourism sector while providing memorable experiences for travellers.

A Year-Round Destination

While Eastbourne is often associated with summer fun, it’s a fantastic destination to visit year-round. The town offers a variety of activities to suit all seasons, from its scenic South Downs walks and waterfront views to cultural attractions and indoor entertainment.
If you’re a fan of the arts, you can catch performances at the Congress Theatre or explore contemporary exhibitions at the Towner Eastbourne art gallery. Nature lovers can enjoy the tranquillity of the Seven Sisters cliffs or visit the nearby Drusilla's Park, a family-friendly zoo. And for those looking to immerse themselves in history, the Redoubt Fortress provides a fascinating glimpse into England’s past.

So, why not make Eastbourne your next stop? Whether you’re strolling along the scenic coastline, stepping into history at a local landmark, or indulging in world-class hospitality, you’re sure to create unforgettable memories. In 2025, we are proudly celebrating 150 years as a hub of hospitality for guests worldwide. We look forward to welcoming many more this week and beyond!
